School is located in beautiful Somerset County, in Central New Jersey.
One of six elementary schools in Hillsborough Township, Amsterdam is
home to 513 students in grades K, TP-4. A solid curriculum, grounded in
New Jersey's Core Curriculum Content Standards, is enhanced by many
opportunities for students to enjoy their time in the schoolhouse. The

School begins at 7:50 am and ends at 2:25 pm
arriving at our school door, please ring the doorbell mounted on the
left. We will ask your name, reason for stopping by and to proceed to
the main office. All visitors must immediately report to the school
office. Failure to do so may result in violation of the NJC 2C: 18-3
trespassing law. Please assist us with this important requirement.
People unknown to us, as always, will be asked for identification.
We are asking that parents do not let other parents into the school
building. We know that you do not want to appear rude but it is
important for each individual to be buzzed in separately.
Visitors Must Sign In and Take A Visitor Sticker: You
will be asked to sign in our pink visitor's book and to take a visitor
sticker located on a roll on the counter. They must be worn while
visiting school property. Please remember to wear your visitor sticker
in a visible spot. If one of the staff members witnesses you without
one you will be directed back to the school office.
Parents may not visit the classroom unannounced for any reason. Our
goal is to have as few interruptions to the school day as possible. If
you are dropping off an item for your child, the office will call into
the classroom. Your child may or may not come up right away for that
item as they may be involved in a lesson. The teacher will send the
child down for that item when he/she can.
Class Parties/Planned Classroom Activities: We
have a new procedure for class parties as previously announced in two
of our recent Instant Alerts. Class parents/photographers may come in
one half hour prior to the party start time. Teachers will be stationed
at a table at the door with a list of the class parents and
photographers. All parents should be prepared to present picture
identification. Only parents on the list will be permitted to the
classrooms. All others will be directed to the office.

guests from the teacher as our check-off list. If you are not on the
list we will call down to the classroom for confirmation.

measures. In order to maintain a high level of school safety, we will
continue to review and update our school security plans on a consistent

remember to keep the teacher and the office informed of changes to your
child's daily schedule by writing a note. Please include in the notes
the child's name, teacher, and the reason for the change to schedule or
departure/pick up changes. These notes, after being reviewed by the
classroom teacher, are sent to the office and are held until the end of
the day in question. Dismissal time is very hectic and we need one
source for accessing this information. If you child attends the After
School Program, they must also be kept informed of any changes to their
schedule, either in writing or by calling them directly. Thank you for
